In 2018 Sarah’s life change for the better when she went to see some puppies. Sarah knew straight away that a springer spaniel, a dog with so much energy would need training and occupying; the start of Sarah’s training career. Researching training/trainers, Sarah began Ruby’s training as soon as she was allowed to go out.
We found a highly educated trainer which is where it all started, Ruby was training 3 times a week in classes and everyday at home in Heelwork to music (tricks), Good Citizen (obedience) and agility. The best part of our teamwork was finding what made Ruby tick and watching her figure out what we were asking, doing it independently and most of all enjoying it with her very waggy tail. The pure enjoyment it gave me and Ruby; it was definitely apparent at that point that my career path was going to take a route down the dog industry. Together as a team we have supported friends in public demos, competed together and seen the country in a fun light. Thank you Ruby for giving me your commitment 100%, for bringing pure love and joy into my life and for making me into the trainer I am today.
In 2021 we decided as a family (Ruby included) that we were ready to bring another dog into our lives. Our precious little cheeky boy Ham is a Sprocker Spaniel (Cocker Spaniel crossed Springer Spaniel). Ruby was incredibly excited to have a playmate, but most importantly we knew Ruby would be the perfect role model to him. As above, Hammy participates in Heelwork to music and agility with the view to compete in both.
We had a good few months with Hammy before being contacted by one of our trainers about another Springer Spaniel puppy (a week younger than Hammy). ARE WE MAD?! I actually think so haha. We didn’t snap at this decision and discussed it long and hard with trainers, researched and planned properly before going ahead. Skye was rehomed through completely no fault of her own and we could see exactly how loved she was at her previous family, sadly they came to the choice of rehoming her as they felt they couldn’t meet her needs. Despite this we could see how loved she was and it was important that Skye went to the right home. We are incredibly grateful to not only be recommended for Skye but for also being trusted to rehoming this fabulous girly.
Now we have our hands full, 3 spaniels 2 pretty much the same age going through adolescence together. Now if this doesn’t make us better trainers/dog owners I don’t know what will! We now have 3 very much loved doggies all training in Heelwork to music, agility, obedience and a bit of gun dog work. We live and breathe training.
Sarah’s education comes from years of hands on experience and IMDT (institution of modern dog trainers). She has participated in courses and also has ongoing course’s to increase the knowledge daily and to keep it up to date. We thought it would be pretty cool to educate dog owners in to becoming their own dog trainers to get the best out of their furbabies.
Chewing is a self- soothing behaviour (like sucking our thumbs or a dummy!) It releases endorphins which help to relax and calm a dog.
Some dogs may chew because they receive attention (even if it is negative) so the owners are inadvertently rewarding the behaviour.
